A thin white glaze covers this large landscape vase in carved and applique relief decoration by Wang Bingrong a noted studio potter of carved relief ceramics. He produced many works of a commercial nature decorated with scholars themes of the time. The large canvas provided by the tall vase allowed the inclusion of an array of nature and not compromising the blank space essential for viewing. The decoration includes a peacock central amidst pine trees and birds, a lotus pond with ducks and a crane all expertly carved by a skilled master craftsman.

This vase is one of the largest known by Wang Bingrong and reputed to be one of a pair.
