yuhuchun vase, 16th. c

DSCN1286 underglaze blue  yuhuchun vase 27 cm height decorated with four distinct bands of pattern;

band of lotus panels at foot, band of sea waves surrounding abstract sea figures to main body, band of cloud whirls to neck with upper band below mouth of plantain leaves. much can be read into symbolism however, it is noteworthy that plantain leaves symbolising self reading of the poor is at the top of the vase transcending the earth, sea and sky in the lower panels.
I like the symbolism of this vase with the powerful and artistic brush strokes.
